A small number of pilgrims and Franciscan friars walked on Good Friday (April 3) on Jerusalem's Via Dolorosa 'the path of sorrows' following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
Residents said it was the ongoing war in the region that had filled people with fear this year.
Traditionally thousands of pilgrims and local Christians walk the Via Dolorosa re-enacting Jesus Christ's final path during the Easter celebrations. It is normally led by Franciscan friars and the procession covers 14 Stations of the Cross through the Old City's, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
But with war raging in the region few pilgrims have made the journey to the old city of Jerusalem this year.
Israel has continued to strike targets in Lebanon and Iran, supported by U.S. President Donald Trump who
has threatened to extend attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran after a U.S. strike cut a major highway bridge on Thursday, prompting a defiant response from Iran, which hit a water plant in Kuwait and said more would follow.
Nearly five weeks after it started with a joint U.S.-Israeli aerial assault, the war in Iran continues to spread chaos across the region. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
