- Story Text: Indonesia laid to rest the United Nations peacekeepers, killed in Lebanon, in their respective hometowns on Sunday (April 5) after three bodies were repatriated to the country a day earlier.
Three Indonesian soldiers with the U.N. peacekeeping force UNIFIL were killed in two separate incidents in southern Lebanon earlier this week, during a period of intensified violence, when Lebanese journalists and medics were also killed in Israeli strikes.
Peacekeepers Farizal Phomadhon and Zulmi Aditya Iskandar were buried in their hometowns of Kulon Progo and Bandung respectively. Their coffins were draped in the Indonesian flag during military funerals marked by a final gun salute as they were lowered into their graves.
In a post on X on Tuesday (March 31), Foreign Minister Sugiono called for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting and "for a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation" into the "heinous attack" after speaking with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
