  • Story Text: Representatives from 40 countries and organisations met in Berlin on Tuesday (October 28) at the invitation of Germany to discuss the Syrian refugee crisis and to find ways to lend support to neighbouring countries taking in millions of refugees.
    German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier opened the conference at Berlin's foreign ministry in the presence of Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and the foreign ministers from several other countries, along with the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and the European Union's newly elected High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
    Steinmeier and his counterparts from Lebanon and Jordan, Gebran Bassil and Nasser Judeh were expected to reveal details on the outcome of the one-day meeting at a joint news conference at 1415 GMT.
