Heavy fighting between Christian Lebanese Forces and Moslem sections of the Lebanese Army and Moslem militias escalated on April 10 with shelling of the eastern sector of the port city. The fighting centred around the Al-Hilweh and Miyeh Miyeh Palestinian refugee camps, near confrontation lines formed in three weeks of sectarian battles which have left about 60 dead and more than 200 injured. Fighting between the Christians and Moslems broke out a few weeks after the Israelis pulled out of the city in the first stage of their three-phase pull out from Southern Lebanon. Refugee camps have become almost daily targets. The streets of Al-Hilweh camp are almost deserted now, after several people, including three children, were killed in a barrage on April 7. An official of the Lebanese Red Crescent (Red Cross) organisation accused the Lebanese Forces of the attack, while a gunman in the camp laid blame on the Arabs for what was happening to the Palestinians.
