- Story Text: Jordan, facing serious economic difficulties as it tries to care from 120,000 refugees from the Middle East War, is now counting the cost of the loss to Israel of its territory west of the River Jordan. The refugees have trooped across the river in their thousands to makeshift homes in schools, mosques, and hastily erected camps.
The refugees have left behind them the homes and personal belongings. Many are arriving without money and for some - refugees since the 1948 war -- it's their second flight from the victorious Israelis.
One of the main problems facing Jordan is providing food, accommodation and work for the refugees. Contributions from several countries and organisation have helped ease the burden, but that doesn't solve the problem of ensuring continued aid or employment for the refugees.
Authorities have appealed to the people living on the West bank, ??? occupied by Israel, not to cross the river.
