- Story Text: Bosnian Serb Army sources said that thousands of Bosnian Serb refugees were on Thursday (July 27) fleeing a Croat offensive near Grahovo in western Bosnia and moving northwards deeper into Bosnia. (July 27).
The refugees were fleeing north towards Serb-held Drvar, Petrovac and Banja Luka, the sources told Reuters.
Croat forces broke through Bosnian Serb defence lines 12 km (7.5 miles) south of Grahovo and infiltrated to within three km (1.8 miles) of the town, the sources said.
Traffic had ceased along the vital road linking Serb-held Knin in Croatia with Serb territory in southwest Bosnia because of the Croat offensive, the sources added.
There was also fierce fighting on the Glamoc front in southern Bosnia, to the east of Knin.
Croatian television on Wednesday night carried a Bosnian Croat military statement which said the Croat offensive was in response to Serb shelling of areas in Croat-controlled southern Bosnia.
United Nations officers could not confirm the reports of fighting because both armies have barred peacekeepers from gaining access to the battlefront.
