- Story Text: More than 700 Bosnian refugees, who have spent three years as refugees in the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, began the final stage of their return to Bosnia on Saturday (June 3).
The Italian ferry Espresso Venezia carried the 733 refugees from the Albanian port of Durres to the Croatian port of Split.
The refugees were to travel by bus from Split to the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo.
"After three years in (the former Yugoslav republic of) Macedonia they (the refugees) have all come to the same conclusion.
There are many beautiful countries in the world but there can be no country as dear to us as our own," said Supka Sisic, a 32-year-old doctor.
Shelling and sniping have increased in Sarajevo in the past month. The central town of Tuzla, ultimate destination for around 100 of the group, was the target of a Bosnian Serb artillery attack which killed 68 people last month.
The convoy was organised by the Bosnian government and the Islamic relief group El Hilal and sponsored by the Third World Relief Organisation based in Vienna.
