- Story Text: Hundreds of Serb refugees, driven from their homes in Croatia's Krajina region, arrived in towns all over Serbia on Thursday (August 10), battered and exhausted after their ordeal, but relieved to have finally reached safety.
People handed out food and water to the refugees along the route and doctors treated those who were wounded.
Doctor Radoman Crnobrnja said he had treated 200 people in the last 2 days, of which most had been wounded during their journey out of Krajina rather than during the offensive itself.
"People had stones thrown at them, have facial wounds", he said. "Children have bad stomachs ....many people have skin diseases".
The president of the Serbian refugee centre in Belgrade on Friday blamed the government of Krajina for everything that had happened over the past few weeks and the resulting refugee crisis.
The Serbian High Commissioner for Refugees, Bratislava Morina, however, said they had received total cooperation from the Serbian government in accommodating and treating the hundreds of refugees.
Refugees in Belgrade, menawhile, continued to search for lost relatives and friends. People gathered outside the Serbian Red Cross headquarters to examine lists of people accounted for since the Croatian offensive last week.
