- Story Text: Some Afghan refugees began to head home from Pakistan
after they had previously fled during the U.S.-backed war
against the Taliban
Thousands of refugees fled across the Chaman border
post into Pakistan during the U.S-backed offensive but since
the fall of the Taliban, an uneasy calm has enticed many to
return.
The refugees have loaded what possessions they have onto
barrows, cars and trucks and hope to begin leading normal
lives once again on their return to their country.
"The situation is OK in Kandahar. Everything is fine. Life
is routine and businesses are open and we hope that it stays
that way," said one Afghan man who was hoping to return.
Pakistan border security guards watched the traffic
closely as many people are still coming in the other direction
from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
