- Story Text: The annual Amfar charity auction at the Cannes Film Festival was full of surprises as Kylie Minogue put in a performance with Sharon Stone and George Clooney sells two kisses for 350,000 U.S. dollars each.
It was a night full of surprises at the amFAR fundraiser at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 23). As most years, Sharon Stone was on hand to ask her celebrity friends to participate in supporting the cinema against Aids and they turned out in full force.
Robert Rodriguez, Rose Mac Gowan, Eva Mendez, Claudia Schiffer, Kurt Russell , and most of the cast of Ocean's 13, apart from Brad Pitt were present to lend her a helping hand.
The evening got nicely underway with Clooney selling two kisses for 350, 000 U.S. dollars each and one member of the audience acquiring a diamond necklace for 550,000 dollars and thus earning a kiss from Stone.
But the undisputed highlight of the auction was, when Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue put in a surprise performance for 10,000 US per bidder and ended up singing with no other than Sharon Stone.
Although Minogue resumed her tour after winning her battle with breast cancer she hadn't been seen in public for some time and so Wednesday's performance was a true winner for Sharon Stone's cause against Aids.
Burlesque dancer Dita von Teese put in a performance with a difference that had the crowd of the rich and famous in cheers.
amFAR is an old friend of the Cannes Film Festival, having brought an impressive list of celebrities to the South of France for 14 years.
Celebrities were bidding for luxury lots including custom made Louis Vuitton luggage, Swarovski crystal jewelled shoes and a one-on-one tennis lesson from Monica Selles.
Claudia Schiffer arrived in a dress dripping with pearls while fellow model Elle Macpherson also looked stunning in a gold and black Gucci dress.
