- Story Text: Syria deployed a ship, the 'Captain Abdullah' on Thursday (March 3) to rescue hundreds of its nationals at the port of Benghazi.
Damascus has dispatched two other ships in recent weeks since the onset of Libyan political unrest and has continued its evacuation flights to Tripoli.
Evacuees were eager to return to their homeland and queued peacefully ahead of their departure.
""Benghazi's events were incredible. It is very harsh to kill children, violate women and destroy buildings and cars, it should be stopped. The current Gaddafi is stranger than the one I know. How dare he kill his own people," said Syrian national Ayman Mohamed.
Libyan premier Muammar Gaddafi on Thursday struck at rebel control of a key Libyan coastal road for a second day but received a warning he would be held to account at The Hague for suspected crimes by his security forces.
Syria's ruling hierarchy, lead by president Bashar al-Assad seems unperturbed by the winds of change sweeping through Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, confident that its security apparatus and a popular hardline against Israel will ensure its grip on power. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
