- Story Text: Protesting anti-Assad activists near the Syrian embassy in Jordan on Friday (April 13) cast doubt over the success of the Annan brokered ceasefire plan that aims to end bloodshed in Syria.
Demonstrators gathered near the embassy after Friday prayers, calling for removal of president Bashar al-Assad and unity among the Syrian people.
They also played down the significance of the one-day-old ceasefire following the death of nearly 50 people since the truce started on Thursday (April 12).
Indications show that the ceasefire plan is a failure because they would not pull the army out of the streets. They did not stop killing until now," said Syrian national Safouh al Barazi.
"Killing is continuing in Syria. Yesterday there were more than 30 martyrs and today, until now, 20 martyrs. Annan's initiative gives al-Assad time so he might be able to end this blessed revolution," said activist Mohammad Etri.
The U.N. Security Council was working on a resolution authorising the dispatch of an advance party of U.N. observers to monitor the truce. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
