  • Story Text: Vans carrying newly-arrived Syrian refugees arrived at the Reyhanli camp in the Turkish-Syrian border late on Monday (July 2).
    According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, 293 Syrians, including 85 defectors, crossed the Turkish border later on Monday in addition to the earlier influx of refugees.
    A Syrian general from an artillery division and seven officers were among dozens of soldiers, mostly serving in Homs province, who defected and fled to Turkey, a Syrian activist and Free Syrian Army source told Reuters.
    Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber also said on its website that 85 Syrian soldiers, including the general, were among those who were sent to the Apaydin camp in Turkey's Hatay province.
    Apaydin is a highly-protected private military camp where the army defectors are said to be held.
