- Story Text: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met a delegation of Syrian opposition members in Moscow on Monday (July 9) for talks on resolving the crisis in Syria.
Lavrov held talks with the Syrian opposition members, headed by opposition activist and writer Michel Kilo.
After the meeting Kilo said he hoped Moscow would play a 'positive role' in finding a peaceful solution in Syria.
"They (the Russian side) understood, they understood very well what we had to say and we understood what they had to say and I think it was an effective and productive dialogue. As you know, Russia is very important for us, very important for finding a peaceful solution to our crisis and I hope they are going to play a positive role in the future," Kilo told journalists after talks ended.
Russia said it will not deliver Yak-130 fighter planes to Syria while the situation there remains "unresolved", the country's service for military cooperation said on Monday, according to the RIA news agency.
"In the current situation talking about deliveries of airplanes to Syria is premature," Vyacheslav Dzirkaln, deputy director of the service, told journalists at the UK's Farnborough Airshow, RIA said.
Russia reportedly signed an order to deliver 40 fighter-trainer jets at the end of last year, despite controversy surrounding its arms sales to violence-torn Syria. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
