- Story Text: Seven Syrians who were wounded during a military assault in Aleppo's Azaz district were brought to Turkey on Monday (July 2) for treatment.
Heavily wounded Syrians were taken to a state hospital in the southern province of Kilis. One of the wounded was able to walk into the hospital with assistance while some were stretchered by hospital staff.
Syrian refugee Nasir Hac Kasim said the district had been under attack since midday Sunday (July 1).
"I am from Azaz. Since yesterday 1200pm, they have been shelling Azaz. There are no houses left. They have shelled everywhere. We are bringing heavily wounded Syrians here to Kilis," said Nasir.
Wounded refugees being brought to Turkey comes as new tensions have built up on the frontier between the two countries after Syrian forces shot down a Turkish jet.
Turkey has become increasingly vocal against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, calling for him to step down, and has given sanctuary to rebels and groups opposing the Syrian leader.
There are also more than 35,000 Syrian refugees living in camps along Turkey's border with Syria. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
