- Story Text: The Jordan-Syrian Hijaz Railway has begun the first
regular train service for thirty years between the two
countries.
A freshly painted diesel engine, adorned with
photographs of Jordan's King Abdullah II and Syrian President
Hafez Assad, set off from Amman's antique Mahatta station on
Thursday (July 29) on a seven-hour trip to Damascus as part of
the resumption of passanger train services between the two
capitals.
The opening of the rail link comes after an improvement
in relations between Jordan and Syria.Ties
between the two countries have been steadily improving since
King Abdullah ascended the throne last February.
