  • Story Text: Syria's Foreign Minister Abdul Halim Khaddam arrived in Jordan on Saturday for a goodwill visit to strengthen his country's ties with Jordan and to hold talks with Jordanian Prime Minister Zeid Al-Rifai.

    Mr. Khaddam also delivered a personal letter from Syria's President Hafez Al-Assad to Jordan's King Hussein.

    The Syrian Foreign Minister told newsmen that his visit was part of continuing contacts between Arab countries aimed at strengthening relations with each other. This continuing consultation was decided on at the recent Arab Summit Conference in Rabat.

    Shortly after his arrival, Mr. Khaddam met Premier Rifai for talks. Later, he called at King Hussein's palace in the capital, Amman.
