- Story Text: President Anwar Sadat of Egypt arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Saturday (17 May) on the last stop in his tour of fore Arab countries to discuss the Middle East situation.
President Sadat, who met by Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad, spoke with Syrian leaders and the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) Mr. Yasser Arafat during his short visit.
The Egyptian President later told newsmen that he had reached full agreement with fellow Arab leaders on Middle East problems during talks on his trip, which also took him to Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan.
He said they had assessed the situation and discussed steps to be taken. He added that they had consolidated Arab unity and their views on the near future.
