- Story Text: In southern Lebanon, a Syrian worker has been killed
and three of his colleagues wounded by shells fired from the
direction of Israel's occupation zone.
A number of shells hit the worker's one-room house in
the frontline village of Majdal Silim on Tuesday (April 18).
Earlier, Hizbollah guerrillas had lobbed mortars on a
nearby post of Israel's South Lebanon Army (SLA) militia.
Further east, witnesses and security sources said several
homes were damaged by artillery fired from inside the zone,
but
there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Hizbollah, which is backed by Iran and Syria, is waging a
war of attrition to end Israel's 22-year-old occupation of
south
Lebanon.
On Monday (April 17), Israel told the United Nations that
it would complete a withdrawal from the area by July 7.
An Israeli pullout without a peace deal with Lebanon or
Syria has heightened fears that radical guerrillas would
launch attacks on northern Israel, which would prompt fierce
retaliatory strikes.
