  • Story Text: President Sadat conferred with Syrian Foreign Minister Mr. Halim Khaddam in Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday (November 17th). He delivered a special message from President Assad but its contents were not disclosed.

    Mr. Khaddam had met Foreign Minister Ismael Fahmi and Mahmoud Riad, Secretary General of the 18-nation Arab League, on the previous day. They discussed the Arab Summit Conference in Algiers later this month.

    There has been considerable diplomatic activity leading up to the conference where the main business will be the recent Middle East conflict. Envoys from Morocco and Ethiopia have recently visited Cairo, and Egyptian special envoy, Dr. Mohammed Al-Zayyat, has been touring the Middle East.

    SYNOPSIS: President Sadat's official residence in Cairo - the meeting place for the President and Syria's Foreign Minister, Mr. Halim Khaddam, on Saturday - the second day of his official visit to Egypt.

    Mr. Khaddam carried a special message from President Assad but its contents were not disclosed. He had a meeting the previous day with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Mr. Ismael Fahmi, and the Secretary General of the 18-nation Arab league, Mr. Mahmoud Riad. There has been considerable diplomatic activity leading up to the Arab Summit conference where the main business will be the recent conflict with Israel. Envoys from Ethiopia and Morocco have recently been to see President Sadat, and the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie is expected to arrive soon. At the same time Egypt's special envoy, Dr. Mohammed Al-Zayyat, has been touring Arab countries.
