- Story Text: Tension remained high in the Golan Heights on Tuesday and Wednesday (31 October and I November) after a day of fighting between Israeli and Syrian forces.
An exchange of air and artillery strikes came against a background of Israeli anger over the release by West Germany of three guerrillas being hold over the murder of eleven Israeli athletes in Munich. The West Germans acted in compliance with demands by Arab air hijackers.
The Israeli Air Force attacked four Palestinian commando bases not far from the Syrian capital on Monday. The Syrians reacted by shelling Israeli positions on the Golan Heights. This led to further Israeli air strikes.
On Tuesday the front was quiet, but correspondents said the atmosphere was tense, with incessant Israeli military activity in the central Golan area.
