  • Story Text: Up to ten thousand people took to the streets of Warsaw on Saturday (July 17th) for the annual European gay and lesbian parade, Europride.
    The colourful and vibrant parade wound it's way through the major streets of Warsaw without much of the expected opposition from far right and anti-gay protestors.
    However there were eight arrests with one policeman assaulted and hospitalised according to police reports.
    "Supporting Polish people for lesbian and gay rights," said Fernando from Colombia when asked why he was there.
    Claudia, a campaigner for gay rights from Amsterdam, Holland, said, "We educate children about homosexuality. And we think it's important because we are
    just human, the only thing is that we love women and men love men. And we want to show the world that it's fine to be like this."
    The party is due to go on well into the night with clubs and bars all over the Polish capital putting on gay and lesbian themed parties.
