Newsreel footage obtained through Gaumont Graphic Newsreel by Reuters shows the last massive earthquake to hit New Zealand.
The Napier earthquake, also called the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, stuck on February 3, 1931 at 10:47 in the morning and killed 256 people.
The 7.8 magnitude quake happened 15 kilometers north of Napier on New Zealand's North Island and caused widespread damage in Napier as well as in the neighbouring towns of Hastings and Wairoa.
The Napier earthquake is widely considered the deadliest natural disaster in New Zealand. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
