  • Story Text: British singer Boy George attends London's Gay Pride parade in the first public appearance of the ex-Culture Club star since his release from prison.
    The annual London Gay Pride took place on Saturday (July 4) in the British capital. It's the biggest event on the London gay calendar and attracts about 500,000 people. The theme this year was 'come out and play'.
    Singer Boy George had his own float in the parade that started off near Oxford Street at 1200GMT. It was the ex-Culture Club frontman's first public appearance since his release from prison.
    Also attending were a spoof Michael Jackson tribute group that dressed up as 'Thriller' crew.
    One of the biggest gay festivals in Europe, London Gay Pride celebrates the city's gay history and draws attention to more serious issues such as fighting hate crime, equality for members of the gay community in their workplaces and supporting same-sex marriages.
    After parading down London's main shopping streets -- Oxford and Regent streets -- the parade congregated at Trafalgar Square for music sets by Heather Small and Boy George amongst others.
    Pride London is in its sixth year and is a registered charity, with events run solely by volunteers.
