- Story Text: Amsterdam's first Gay Circus on Thursday night (September 24) could not have been more traditional in terms of entertainment.
Set in an old fashioned circus tent the Nichten Circus had snakes and crocodiles, magic and juggling.
Yet it was still a show with a difference: the performers are all gay - or almost all - and it is taylored especially for a gay audience.
"It's a Circus or Variety show especially made for gay people," says the circus director, Richard van de Crommert.
"Almost every artist is also gay, and if they're not gay, they are almost gay" he added.
The audience was mixed however, with both young and old, straight and gay, as Nichten wants everyone to enjoy their show.
For a final flamboyant touch of glamour the circus included a performance by Iceland's Eurovision song contest entry Euroband. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
