- Story Text: Amsterdam's canals on Saturday (August 4) became the stage for the city's annual gay pride festival, for which hundreds of thousands of people line the streets to watch boats carrying scantily clad dancers and pop performers.
Saturday marks the festival's sixteenth anniversary, when the boats are adorned with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and straight revellers, many dressed in very little.
This year's festival was marked with the help of performers Brandi Russell and Outrageous, a joint act who recorded a song especially for the festival.
Russell, who helped write, record and produce the song in just a month, said:
"The song is about being proud of who you are: If you're gay, straight, bi, curious or transgendered, it's all just, you know, being proud of who you are, every day. And supporting each other to live free and believe in love."
Mister Gay Netherlands Thom Goderie, said the festival's celebration made it one of a kind.
"I think it's very cool because if you're a straight, if you're a gay, if you're bisexual or if you're, no matter what you are, today we all celebrate the acceptation, and that's a very good thing," he said.
Celebration typically continue at street parties across the city into the night.
