- Story Text: A suicide bomber attacked an Afghan army bus in the capital Kabul, on Sunday (January 26) killing four people and wounding up to 22 people, police said.
The attack, the latest in a worrying upsurge of violence in Kabul and around Afghanistan, was claimed by the Taliban.
Two army personnel and two civilians were among the dead, according to the Ministry of Defense, and some of those wounded were children who had been nearby when the bomber attacked.
"A suicide bomber was waiting at the bus station and detonated himself when the army bus arrived. As a result three Afghan army soldiers and a woman were martyred and nine others wounded," said Abdul Qayum Baqizoi, deputy police chief of Kabul
It was the deadliest attack over another restive 24 hours in Kabul, with at least two other incidents reported by security officials in the Afghan capital.
The previous evening, two people were wounded in an explosion in the northern part of the capital, while security sources said a rocket struck close to the airport without inflicting any casualties. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
