Thousands of gays, lesbians, transvestites and heterosexuals took to the streets of Mexico City on Saturday (June 26) to celebrate Gay Pride.
Transvestite Elizabeth summed up the mood of many saying: "It is one of the few days in the year where one is free and not so oppressed. I hope this will not only be for now but always."
Some 3000 people took part in the yearly march organised by Parents for Sexual Diversity to protest against discrimination and bring awareness to gay issues.
One parade participant Aguilar said: "It is good that this event is taking place so we can all enjoy ourselves because in the end we are all the same. People understand we are all human beings."
Some of those taking part were dressed extravagantly, dancing and singing on colourful floats, as the parade wound its way through the streets of the conservative capital of the country.
