- Story Text: INTRO: Cape Town could one day be the gay capital of the world. So say the "Mother City Queer Project" who took part in this year's costume party in the city.
Thousands of partygoers converged on Cape Town on Saturday (December 14) for its third annual costume party, South Africa's celebration of gay culture.
The theme this year was the "Twinkly Sea". Incredible effort was put into the amazing variety of costumes. From King Neptune dragging behind him a net of two-legged "Fish" to a very masculine "Pamela Anderson" from Baywatch.
Groups dressed as schools of fish and jellyfish, bluebottles and sharks bumped and swayed on the 10 dancefloors catering for different musical tastes.
The head of the Mother City Queer Project, Andre Vorster, said they wanted to make Cape Town the third gay capital of the world equal with San Francisco and Sydney.
