- Story Text: Thousands of Brazilians mark Gay Pride with parade
through Rio's famed Copacabana Beach.
More than 500,000 people took to the streets of Rio
de Janeiro on Sunday (June 26) for the annual gay parade.
Celebrations are taking place worldwide to mark
International Gay Pride month.
Rio's famous Copacabana beach resounded to the sounds
of techno music and samba.
Colourful floats and even more colourful participants,
some in outrageous costumes, some wearing little at all,
weaved along the promenade.
Brazil's Human Rights Minister Nilmario Miranda joined
the procession. He said his country was demonstrating its
willingness to respect differences, diversity and tolerance.
The parade culminated in a series of concerts and
contests on the beach.
