- Story Text: Second day of Arab summit begins in Syria.
The Arab League Summit in Damascus continued into its second and final day on Sunday (March 30) amid speculation its final draft resolution will not include new decisions on Mideast peace or Lebanon, the most pressing issues in the annual two-day meeting.
Lebanon boycotted the summit although it was one of the most important issues discussed. Syria promised Arab leaders on Saturday to cooperate in ending a political crisis in Lebanon, and regional power Saudi Arabia said it saw Damascus as part of the solution.
The conciliatory language on Lebanon offered some relief from the tensions that have built up during preparations for the two-day meeting, which Lebanon and key pro-U.S. Arab leaders are skipping in protest against Syria's Lebanon policy. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
