- Story Text: Protesters gathered outside the Syrian embassy in Amman on Saturday (June 18) to demonstrate their solidarity with the uprising against the rule of President Bashar al Assad in Syria.
About 100 people waved Syrian flags and shouted slogans denouncing the bloodshed.
"We want all Arab countries to identify their position regarding the Syrian people and their peaceful revolution. We also want the Syrian people to achieve their goals of freedom, justice and to establish a modern democratic Syrian state, the modern Syria, or as they call it the New Syria," said Syrian protester Sundus.
Most of the protesters were women and children from the large Syrian community of about 200,000 who live in Jordan, having left Syria in search of jobs or for political reasons.
Over the past three months, Syrian security forces have used tanks and bullets to crush a wave of popular unrest as people across the country have taken the streets to demand greater freedom. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
