- Story Text: Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal said in Damasucs on Tuesday (January 22) that the goal of the Palestinian factions' conference scheduled to be held on Wednesday , is to resolve all the Palestinian problems.
"We want to resolve all the problems as a package in order to arrange our Palestinian home from the organisation of the liberation, authority, legislation council, elections, security forces etc. All these issues we want to resolve because we are all targetted by the Zionist aggression," Meshaal told Reuters.
The conference will be held in the Syrian capital but some of the Palestinian factions such as Fatah, Popular Front and the Democratic Front will not attend, although they have been invited to.
Meshaal also said rockets being fired at Israel are a reaction to Israeli "aggression".
"The Palestinian rockets are a reaction to the (Israeli) occupation and aggression. Let Israel stop its aggression and end its occupation and the resistance will stop its rockets. Because the resistance is a way and not a goal," he said.
Israel has tightened restrictions on the movement of people and goods into Gaza since Hamas violently took over the territory from President Abbas's forces in June. Gazans often describe the area, home to 1.5 million people, as a prison. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
