- Story Text: Orphans and children with special needs were given the chance to see a new animated film, the Walt Disney-produced "The Princess and the Frog," in a special viewing organised by the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs ahead of the film's general release later this week.
The event, at the Syrian Opera House in Damascus, was intended to give those who are unable to go to the cinema regularly a chance to see the new film before its general release.
"We hope it will fulfil the goal of giving these children this rare chance which they will remember as a special experience," said Insaf Hamad, Head of the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs.
Eight hundred children attended the event to watch the two-hour movie.
"It doesn't matter when we see the film, whether it is before or after its general release. It doesn't matter if we see it a whole year after its release. What is important is to have such activities all the time. I love the idea of getting a film and bringing people together to watch it, and sharing the experience with these children with special needs," said Syrian actress Karis Bachar.
The English movie had Arabic and French subtitles, but some of the children were unable to understand it.
"I loved it and its drawings are nice but I did not understand it in English," said Sidra Dalloul, a seven-year old girl.
The Princess and the Frog is a 2009 Walt Disney animated film and will be released globally on Friday (December 11). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
