President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev was taken on a tour of Damascus' historical sites on Tuesday (November 6) by his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.
Nazarbayev, who is on a three-day official visit to Syria, first visited the tomb of Syrian philosopher Mohammed al-Farabi, where the two leaders laid a cornerstone marking the beginning of major restoration works to be carried out on the tomb.
Assad and Nazarbayev later visited the Azzariyeh school to inspect the Kazakh-funded restoration work being carried out on the school's main building. They then held prayers at the tomb of al-Zahar Bebars, a Mamluk Sultan who founded the school.
Nazarbayev arrived in Damascus on Monday (November 5) for a visit which aims to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
Nazarbayev has run his ex-Soviet nation with an iron fist since 1989. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
