- Story Text: Activists from Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood movement on Sunday (June 12) gathered near the Syrian embassy in Amman to protest against the Assad regime and show solidarity with the Syrian popular uprising.
Over the past three months, Syrian security forces have used tanks and bullets to crush a wave of popular unrest as people across the country have taken the streets to demand greater freedom.
"The Jordanian people are protesting near the Syrian embassy in Amman to show solidarity with the Syrian people, who are being oppressed. They Syrians are resisting tyranny and injustice committed by the Syrian regime," said Islamist activist Wael Saqa.
More than 2400 Syrians fled to Turkey over the past few days to escape a feared army crackdown.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has urged Damascus to allow a fact-finding mission into the country to investigate all allegations of violence, including Syrian state television reports that 120 members of the security forces were killed by armed gangs. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
