- Story Text: At a makeshift hospital in Homs, Syrian activists are treated for their wounds.
The streets of Homs in Syria are almost deserted except for those who venture out to get food and medicine.
Cars are seen speeding by as they rush to avoid what they say are government forces targeting civilians they deem opposed to the regime. The regime says it is targeting armed gangs.
In one makeshift hospital, the chances of survival of the wounded are low as the doctor and medics on duty try to resuscitate patients. An elderly man could not be revived as he lay on a stretcher with wounds in the abdomen. Another lay on the floor in a pool of blood.
The doctor like many Syrians opposed to the regime, says he cannot identify himself on camera or show himself for fear of being apprehended or reprised, but he described the injuries to one patient.
''This is an injury from a nail bomb, five wounds, three in the legs and two in the arms and a broken left arm and a mild wound in the head. He says he was at home when he was hit,'' he said.
Another wounded man with a cast on one leg and wounds to the other, described how he was injured.
''There was a Kia car that drove by and gunmen shot us. Two of my friends were martyred and three wounded and I was hit in my legs and one of my friends was hit with six bullets,'' he said.
Homs is one of the areas in Syria most-heavily opposed to the regime and has been under heavy crackdown by the army and security forces for months. Hundreds have been reported killed in Homs since the uprising began in March.
At a protest on Friday (December 9) actress Fadwa Suleiman and national football team player Abdel Basset Sarout led a protest against the regime.
The two have become icons for protesters in Homs, but are reported to be living on the run as a result of the regime's ongoing crackdown.
