- Story Text: A group of Syrian nationals living in Bulgaria on Friday (February 3) protested in front of the Russian embassy in Sofia against alleged Russian support for the Syrian regime.
"The protest is against Russian support to the dictator's regime in Syria, which doesn't care about Syrians and about the world's opinion and only cares to keep the power as long as possible at any price. Syrian people pay this price with their blood while world powers can't take any measures against this monstrous regime, because Russia and China use their right of veto in Security Council," Amin al-Tawuil, a protester, told Reuters TV.
"Bashar al-Assad kills our children with Russian arms. We want Russians to stop this with their veto and their arms, that are killing our people. Enough of this," added another protester, Hussein.
"We demand from Russia to stop the support of our president. All Syrian nation wants the president to leave and Russia stands with him," said Hussein, a student.
Some of the protesters said they left Syria and came to Bulgaria, because they were threatened by the regime.
Moscow has been a strategic ally of Syria through its decades under Assad family rule and a major arms supplier to Damascus, and bristles at outsiders trying to dictate internal political change in Damascus. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
