- Story Text: The wounded laid next to the dead in an overcrowded field hospital in Homs on Saturday (February 4) after an assault by the Syrian military on the Khalidiya neighbourhood that ''killed hundreds'', amateur video obtained by Reuters showed.
Activists in the city said Syrian forces killed more than 200 people in the assault - the bloodiest so far in the 11-month revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
Amateur video obtained by Reuters also showed a burning military vehicle, which belonged to the army that had been regularly attacked by rebel forces in the Cairo Street intersection close to Khalidiya neighbourhood, hours before the bombing of the neighbourhood began.
On Sunday (February 5) funerals were held in Khalidiya for some of the residents killed in the attack.
Residents said Syrian forces began shelling the Khalidiya neighbourhood at around 8 p.m. (1800 GMT) on Friday (February 3) using artillery and mortars. They said at least 36 houses were completely destroyed with families inside. Video also showed destroyed buildings and rubble in Khalidiya, one of several neighbourhoods in Homs that had been under assault.
Syrian forces renewed their bombardment of Homs on Tuesday (February 7) as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Damascus for talks aimed at pressing President Bashar al-Assad to end a bloody crackdown on a popular revolt and carry out reforms. - Copyright Holder: AMATEUR VIDEO (CAN SELL)
