- Story Text: Major General Robert Mood, who was appointed Head of the U.N. supervision mission in Syria, will arrive on Sunday (April 29) in Damascus to start his mission.
Neeraj Singh, Official Member of the U.N. Advanced Team, said Mood will arrive Sunday afternoon in Damascus in order to be in charge of the U.N. mission in the country.
"The U.N. Secretary General has appointed major General Robert Mood as the chief military observer and head of the mission for the United Nations supervision mission in Syria. Major General Robert Mood will be arriving in Damascus tomorrow afternoon and he will assume command of the mission", said Singh.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, appointed Mood, a veteran of struggling Middle East truces who knows Syria well, to role.
Last Saturday the U.N. Security Council decided to send 300 monitors to the country in order to observe the ceasefire announced on April 10.
In the meantime, there are two monitors stationed in Homs, two in Hama and two in Idlib.
The observers, who stayed last night in Hama, visited Tartous city, on the Syrian coast, for the first time today. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
