  • Story Text: U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Tuesday in an attempt to salvage a six-week old peace plan that has failed to curb the bloodshed in the 14-month-old uprising.
    After the meeting, Annan held a news conference where he said that Syria is now at its tipping point.
    "However, I shared with President Assad my assessment that the six-point plan is not being implemented as it must. We are at a tipping point. The Syrian people do not have a future, their future to be one of bloodshed and division. Yet the killings continue, and the abuses are still with us today," he said.
    The peace envoy also told Assad that he must take bold steps immediately.
