- Story Text: Amateur video obtained by Reuters on Saturday (June 23) showed the aftermath of an attack on the Syrian city of Almanaz in which homes and a mosque were demolished by an aerial bombardment.
The city, 10 kilometres north of Idlib, still contained the shell and missile casings from the attack.
The Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Moustapha, condemned the assault.
"This is a shell from a military tank. Can you explain to me why would they hit a mosque? Has anyone attacked them from this mosque? A mosque is Allah's house. Why do mosques get attacked by rockets and tanks? This is a missile. They targeted a mosque with this? Why? What is the reason? Has anyone praying attacked the Syrian Army from here?" he said.
Local resident Hashem said a woman and one of her children had been killed after a missile struck the house they were in.
"The air force came and started attacking places. They do not distinguish between the houses of civilians and those of the Free Syrian Army. For example, a woman and her children were here. They came and it started. The mother and one child died and the rest are in a bad condition," he said, standing in the doorway of the house.
Elsewhere, a Red Crescent volunteer was shot dead on first aid duty in Syria, his organisation said on Saturday, the fourth local aid worker to be killed as unrest grows increasingly bloody. - Copyright Holder: AMATEUR VIDEO (CAN SELL)
