- Story Text: The President of Syrian opposition party 'Building the Syrian State', Louay Hussein, announced on Thursday (July 12) that a conference aiming to find solutions for the ongoing crisis in the country will be held at the end of July.
"We decided today to call all Syrians, political, youth and popular personalities - inside and outside the country - who work for peaceful change. We called them to hold a conference entitled 'Save Syria' in Damascus, on Saturday (July 28, 2012) that aims to unify during this critical moment facing all the challenges and risks, as well as launching popular and political activities to save the Syrian country from destruction."
The Building the Syrian State Party says on it's website it is a political movement aiming to "take all political measures" to dismantle the current regime and "build a civil and democratic state on it's ruins".
Hussein added, all forces will be invited to attend the conference except for those that are using force. He said the Syrian National Council will not be invited for this reason.
"Does the national council want change in peaceful or aggressive ways? Is it with peaceful or it can use violent means and support them? Then it is not invited to this conference," he said.
Hussein explained why the Building the Syrian State party did not take part in the opposition conference that was held in Cairo last week, saying any solution should be found within Syria.
The news conference on Thursday comes as the Syrian government acknowledged it's ambassador to Iraq, Nawaf al-Fares, had left without prior warning.
Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari told reporters in Paris the Syrian ambassador is currently in Qatar.
Fares was the first senior diplomat to quit the embattled government. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
