- Story Text: A meeting of representatives of more than 100 countries in Paris opposed to President Bashar al-Assad has failed to generate a plan or action despite all the words of good intent, a senior Syrian opposition member said on Friday (July 6).
Speaking at the end of the day-long meeting that called for pressure to be raised on Russia and China, Hassane al-Hashimi who is a senior member of the Syrian National Council, said there had been little more than words.
"What happened today is that we are still hearing good words and good intentions but until now there has not been a language of action, no practical plan and no actions on the ground. The killing continues and it has increased not declined. The international community is paralysed to face the daily killing machine so unfortunately we have not reached the level of the Syrian aspiration with these conferences," he told reporters But a member of the Kurdish opposition front said the gathering which brought together more than 80 delegates from 50 countries was useful.
"It's a positive development and they were unanimous in the need for practical measures. Until now we have been talking theory and today they said they want to take practical measures and for me that is the progress," said Abdel Hakim Bashar. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
