- Story Text: Syrian protesters in the town of Sarmad in Idlib province on Friday (September 21) condemned the U.S.-made film the "Innocence of Muslims" which mocks the Prophet Mohammad.
A video obtained by Reuters shows protesters holding placards indicating their loyalty to Prophet Mohammad in the town of Sarmad, near the Turkish border.
The 13-minute English-language short film, which was filmed in California, portrays the Prophet Mohammad engaged in crude and offensive behaviour.
Charity volunteer Anas, who took part in the protest, said:
"It is true that the Muslim nation moves to defend our beloved Prophet Mohammad and we heard on this protest that our beloved Prophet and leader is Mohammad. But there are also so many movies which are insulting to the Prophet, which are shown daily, and so many massacres against innocent Muslim people. This is insulting to the Prophet, may peace be upon him, and to the Muslims, but the Muslims are asleep," he said.
Many Western and Muslim politicians and clerics have appealed for calm, denouncing those behind the film, but also condemning violent reactions to it. - Copyright Holder: AMATEUR VIDEO (CAN SELL)
