- Story Text: International Mediator, Lakhdar Brahimi said on Sunday (October 21) he has received positive responses for his ceasefire initiative by all the parties he met with outside Syria and the official opposition within Syria.
"We called also some leaders of the peaceful opposition and some armed groups inside and outside the country. We have received positive response. All the opposition members we met outside the country as well as the officials in the neighbouring countries, said that it is a good idea. They all support and accept it," said Brahimi after meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.
Brahimi added that if the ceasefire happened during Adha holiday then there can be a possibility to build on it.
"If we achieved this ceasefire during the Adha holiday and continued, we would try to build on it. If it did not happen then we will keep trying and we hope we can open a way of relief for Syrian people," he said.
Brahimi refused to answer in Syrian government has accepted the initiative or not. He said this should be answered by the government itself. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
