- Story Text: Prison authorities discovered the bloody bodies of four inmates in trash cans on Monday (August 16) morning.
According to officials of the Culiacan jail - located in the western state of Sinaloa - guards noticed the four men missing during the daily roll call, and initiated a search.
After finding the victims in the garbage cans with their throats slashed, state police officers and federal troops took up positions in and around the jail to head off any potential outbreaks of violence or rioting.
Prison director Carlos Suarez reported that three of the victims were new to the prison.
"Of these four inmates, one of them was jailed for rape charges and entered jail last December while the other three were taken in this prison last Friday (August 13) and all were found inside trash cans," he said.
Including Monday's four victims, nine inmates have been killed inside Culiacan's penitentiary this month. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
