- Story Text: Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanes performed in Mexico City on Thursday (August 17).
The audience enthusiastically endorsed his performance which included some of his past hits and selections from his latest album "Like a Field of Corn."
"I won't dedicate this concert to Fidel. That's not my style and I am not accustomed to voice my disagreement at the wrong time about something that has nothing to do with where I am, not even for my country of origin," Milanes told the audience. "If I take advantage of this moment it is to tell you that I left a brief note for Fidel before leaving for Europe and then here in which I expressed my wishes for his speedy recovery."
One of the founders of the highly influential Grupo de Experimentation Sonora del ICAIC with Silvio Rodriguez, Milanes is credited with founding the style of music known as nuevo trova.
He is one of Cuba's most popular singer-songwriters and is considered crucial to linking contemporary Cuban music to traditional music. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
