- Story Text: Mexican soldiers on Tuesday (April 27) rescued 16 people who were being held captive by a drug gang northern Mexico.
The rescue operation, in the municipality of Sabinas Hidalgo in the state of Nuevo Leon, came early on Tuesday morning after the military received a tip off about members of an organised crime gang operating in the area.
The military said the three helicopters circled the area until the location was identified, a house in a deserted area with armed men standing guard outside.
When the military approached a shootout erupted with at least three of suspected gang members killed.
The military found weapons, drugs, and 16 people in chains, amongst them a mother and year-old baby.
