- Story Text: Mexico's most violent city suffered another day of bloodshed on Sunday (August 15) with a wave of killings.
Six guests at a house party were gunned down after armed hitmen opened fire. Five of the victims were women and one man - all between the ages of 18 and 20.
Witnesses say gunmen fired R-15 and AK47 weapons indiscriminately for several minutes.
On the same day, the bodies of four men were found in a ravine on the outskirts of the Camino Real district in the west of Ciudad Juarez.
The victims' bodies displayed signs of having been tortured before being shot in the head and had been killed at the scene.
One of the bodies had a message from the Sinaloa cartel claiming responsibility for the killings.
Over the weekend between Friday (August 13) and Sunday (August 15) 47 killings were registered in the area as a whole. In the year to July, 1,700 people have been killed in violence related to organised crime in Ciudad Juarez alone. Since August 1, 165 have died, making this the most violent period of an already violent year.
Also on Sunday, eight people were shot dead in the "Tierra Alta" area of Loma Bonita in the north of Oaxaca state.
Police in Tuxtepec said the eight victims had set off for a hunting trip from Guadalupe Victoria on Saturday morning.
Five of the victims belonged to the same Loma Bonita family, the Segundos, the others were friends.
One of the victims was originally from Mexico City.
"Three shotguns were found in a pine forest about a kilometre away and we assume they were the ones used in this homicide," said Tuxtepec attorney Santiago Hernandez. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
